I just picked up the XFX Geforce 8800gt Alpha Dog Edition for my pc to upgrade from my geforce 7, now people are telling me the 8800gt is outdated and i should of got a 9 or 200 series card. i'm only a light gamer and want to play games like unreal tournament 3, call of duty 4 not on the lowest settings.|||8800 is a powerful card, it is equal to the 9800 in specs, all they changed in the 9800 is the 55nm core while the 8800 gt uses 65nm core, meaning it runs hotter than the 9 series but in terms of performance 8800 = 9800 and 8800 beats anything under 9800, (9200 9400 9500 9600)
only the 200 series beat 8800 but those are for gamers with 1920 by 1080 resolutions and higher that want to play mostly any game on max settings.
8800 can play cod and unreal tournmant maxed out easily on typical 22 inch screens|||The 8800GT ADE is actually a mid-ranged card, not outdated. And the 9-Series from NVidia aren't really that impressive compared to some 8-Series. The only cards that actually do well in the 9-Series would be probably the 9800GX2, 9800GTX(+), and the 9800GT is the same as the 8800GT.
But the 2-Series are pretty good for the price, especially the GTX280 and GTX285. But those cards aren't for light gaming. So stick with your 8800GT ADE.|||If you visit the nvidia website: www.nvidia.com, you can compare your graphics card with other cards. and you will find that your card is not only good but one of the best cards out there. Only 9800 GTX and the 200 series cards are better than your card. and you can run unreal tournament 3 and call of duty 4 with the highest possible settings with ease given that your other hardware parts are capable enough.
