When I installed the graphics card Windows did boot well! because I heard the windows startup music. But no video! I tried both integrated VGA port and the one that is there on the Graphics card!! No Video! My monitor is blank as if I didn't turn on my computer! Please Help!! Any help is appreciated!! Thanks|||hi there
this is a common problem when installing a new video card and there are several reasons for this and we will begin with the bios settings...
enter the bios by pressing the appropriate key ( normally "delete") and then go to "advanced chipset features " and look for "init display first " ...this lets the bios know what video device you are booting from..set this to "pci-e" and then press "esc" to return to the previous screen
now go to "intergrated peripherals" and then to "onboard pci device" and look for your onboard video device...this may be marked as "onboard video" however it may be the name of the onboard video device,so for example it could be "intel gma950 "......you should then press enter and disable this device.... note : some modern motherboards will auto-configure the display settings and dont require any bios changes however from the sound of yours it looks like this isnt the case
once you have finished in the bios remember to press "save and exit setup" to save the changes you have made to the cmos....your pc will then restart....
aswell as this you need to make sure you have downloaded and installed the most recent drivers for your card....dont use the bundled driver disk supplied with the card..these are sometimes up to 3 years old and shouldnt be used
some cards also require additional power..however i am allmost sure the geforce 8400gs does not require any other power.....as it gets enough power from the pci-express bus
and finally double check you have changed over the vga cable from the motherboard vga port...this may sound stupid however you will be suprised how many people i have seen you have made this mistake ( including myself a long time ago )
to download the latest nvidia forceware drivers go to http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/winxp_196…
also when installing new drivers make sure you have removed the old driver before installing the updated one...and it may also be a good idea to run a program called "driver cleaner" ( http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php… )...this will remove any parts of old drivers that dont get removed during the normal uninstallation process...however make sure you look at the "read me" file to see the correct way of using the program.......
i hope this has helped, any problems let me know
good luck mate !|||boot to safe mode and see if you get a signal. if so then uninstall the driver and install again or try a older driver.
