What type of Video/Graphics card do I need?

I have a computer 5 yr old approx that I have recently bought a new 19' LCD monitor for. It says to select 1400 x 900 resouloution but my computer doesnt have that option in control panel. I only want a cheap card as i only do invoices etc on this computer. Help!|||1440*900 is a widescreen resolution. The screen also works on other resolutions (ex : 1024*768). If you are just doing invoices you really dont need a widescreen resolution, do you ??

Just change the resolution to 1024*768 or make it the same as your old monitor. You dont have to buy New Video card.

Hope this helps.|||you can probably pick up a 128mb video card at a local shop for under $100 or on line at:

www.tigerdirect.com

www.newegg.com|||ALL new video cards (even cheap ones) support this kind of resolution.

buy.com

ATi.com

Nvidia.com

etc|||There are several different types of video cards on the market to fit different motherboards.

I would open up your PC case, (Make sure you touch the power supply to ground yourself and not fry your motherboard) and remove your Video card. Then take it to your local PC store and ask them what Video card best fits your budget.

Good luck|||Check on ebay for a second hand one or older one thats still in the box. Gforce 5500 comes in pci and agp. I am running on my gf one. Its good|||maybe you can return the monitor and get one that has a more standard resolution like 1280x1024. Five year old graphic cards will support this res.

Then you don't have to spend more money upgrading an obsolete machine.|||You would need to know what type of Add-On slot you have.

PCI, AGP, PCI-e ...ect.

You could use belarc advisor < http://www.belarc.com >

to find out who the motherboard manufacturer is then look up the board specs.

Then you would know what type of card to get.
